Day 10 – Serving others with love.

It took me 13 years to understand that this world has no idea what love is nor why it’s important to love others.

Even now, as someone who can confidently say I have accepted His love, my heart still can’t fully comprehend it. And when I try to reflect on it, I am immediately consumed with sorrow.

That’s because His love is so sacrificial.

It’s the love that is given when least deserved. It’s a love that changes people.

The Bible says that people will know you’re His, by how you love.

Are you patient & kind; do you refrain from envy or being boastful, are you arrogant or rude? Do you insist on your own way, or are you irritable or resentful? Do you rejoice at wrongdoing or with truth? Do you keep no record of wrong (forgive)? Or in other words, do you love how His word calls us to in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8?

If you do not strive to love like this then how can you confidently say that you are His…

And if you are not His, how can you serve His people or why would you want to?

When I think of how His love was shown through regular people, I am reminded of Apostle Paul and how he was burdened for God’s people, wanting nothing more than for them to know the truth about Him. Wanting nothing more than their salvation.

But the perfect example of love will always be Jesus dying for us while we were not worthy to die for. The whole gospel message is God’s desire to be reconciled back to us. So much had to be sacrificed in order for us to even know Him. So much had to be sacrificed so that we may be His. And in the same way, so much has to be sacrificed to be His. Whether people reject Him or not, it’s undeniable that His motive has always been love. But when you can’t comprehend His love, a love that is unnatural to this world, it’s impossible to recognize it as so.

But what saddens me most is that God just desires to restore us to how we were always destined to be. Free & in fellowship with Him. That’s why serving people with love matters. Not just serving with love, but His love.

We are only able to love like Him the more we are in fellowship with Him. And the more we grow in understanding of His love for us, we can’t help but want to love those around us the same. Not by obligation, but by simply reciprocating the love He’s given us.

As I reflected on why serving others with love is so important, it just brought me back to how His love changed every fiber of my being. So much so, that when I find myself struggling to love someone like Christ loves me, I am instantly convicted. Why? Because I didn’t deserve His love either, so who am I to deny some else of it…

His love CHANGES people. If that is true, the question isn’t “why is it important to serve others in love, but why are we not?” If how we love is proof that we are His; the question is not if we should, but why we haven’t…
