You know what healing is not?
Healing is not a 30-second inspirational reel on social media with a quote displayed while an instrumental plays on repeat in the background. It’s not endless therapy sessions that, at best, chip away at the surface level of our brokenness. It’s not the mindset of forgiving and forgetting. It’s not the mantra you sing to yourself to ease the burden of past hurts. And if you’re like me, healing is not just being strong enough to stand up after childhood trauma knocked you down. Healing is not overcoming.
Healing is a complete restoration—not only physically, but spiritually, emotionally, and even relationally.
The healing that comes from Christ is not merely a strength where a weakness once was; it’s restoration in a place where brokenness once existed.
Which leads me to the truth that was hardest for me to grasp: We are ALL wounded. That’s because we live in a world marked by brokenness, imperfection, and pain. This is all because we live in a fallen world. Whether through personal choices, the actions of others, or circumstances beyond our control, we all experience this.
And before you fix your heart to say what seems to be a common thought among those with a victim mindset—“What kind of God would allow us to suffer and not do something about it?”—He did do something. He sent His Son to die for us, so that we can not only be free, but completely restored to the life He designed for us from the beginning. A life in harmony with not only Himself, but with ourselves, others, and creation.
Think about it and be honest: When have you ever needed to heal from something God caused? Every spiritual, relational, or emotional wound stems from something we did that was never part of His plan for us.
Yes, brokenness is part of the human experience, but healing is only part of God’s redemptive plan. So, as you continue with this fast, my hope is that you understand that God is not the reason you are broken or in need of healing. He’s the reason you don’t have to stay like that.
Reflection:
In what areas of my life do I feel most broken, and how can I invite God into those places? What habits or mindsets do I need to change to align with God’s word? How have my struggles or need for healing changed my connection with God?
Prayer:
Father, forgive me for not recognizing my part in hindering my healing. God, I want to be fully restored to who You intended me to be from the beginning. I don’t want to be strong enough to endure my past hurts—I want to be made new, as though they never existed. I believe that Jesus died for my freedom. Restore my life to align with that truth.
In Jesus’ name, Amen!
