In the early stages of my faith, I believed that the way God showed up for me—or whether He answered my prayers at all—was directly tied to how strong or sincere my faith was. I treated His response like a report card on my spiritual performance. If He came through, it must’ve meant I believed enough. If He didn’t, I figured I had failed to pray hard enough or trust deep enough.
But over time, I realized how flawed that thinking was. God’s faithfulness isn’t a reflection of my faith—it’s a reflection of His character. It doesn’t rise and fall with my ability to believe. His promises are not anchored in my performance but in who He is. Even when my faith was shaky, He remained steady. Even in seasons of doubt, He still provided, guided, and carried me. Looking back now, I can see: His responses were never about rewarding or withholding based on my merit—they were always about revealing who He is—faithful, gracious, and deeply committed to His promises.
I can laugh about it now, but there were so many things I thought God had promised me—things He never actually said. For example, I believed that following Him meant I’d be shielded from hardship. But Jesus Himself said, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). God never promised a life without pain—but He did promise to walk with us through every valley and storm.
I also believed God promised immediate answers and quick outcomes. But what He really promises is perfect timing and eternal purpose. I used to think that unanswered prayer meant my faith wasn’t strong enough. But the truth is, God’s timing isn’t a measure of my belief—it’s a reflection of His wisdom. “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness” (2 Peter 3:9). His delays are never denials—they’re divine appointments.
So if you find yourself in a season of waiting, wondering, or wrestling with doubt—take heart. God’s promises aren’t fragile or conditional. They don’t depend on how strong your faith feels today. They’re rooted in His unchanging nature and sealed with His steadfast love. He’s not slow. He’s not absent. He’s not forgotten you. He’s working, even when you can’t see it. He’s faithful—even when your faith is faint.
You can trust Him—not because life always makes sense, but because He always keeps His word.
Let His past faithfulness remind you: every promise He has made, He is able and committed to fulfill. So, hold on—He’s not finished yet.
