Double-edge sword…

“But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ””

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭4:4‬ ‭🔥

What good is it to eat physically and keep your flesh alive, but your soul dies?

They describe the word of God as “sharper than a two edged sword”.

In Hebrews 4:12 it states that the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, penetrating even as far as the division of soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It judges the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

I have been dealing with this now. My intentions. Why I do what I do. We can deceive others by outward appearances, by works and by lies, but we can never deceive the Holy Spirit. We can’t fool Him. God sees all things. Even if we have fooled ourselves, the word of God cuts through even that.

Lately, I have been burdened with this spiritually. My heart. The word of God can transform our heart and gives us a new one. But do we even want a new heart? Do we even want what He has for us? I’d confidently say we don’t. Because exposing ourself before God is humbling and it hurts! But life flows from our heart, and the same heart that keeps us alive in the flesh body, kill us spiritually. Just like if you killed our heart our whole body dies. Our flesh can’t live without it, like our spirit can’t live without His.

A lot of us are dead inside. No longer feeling or longing for the Lord. That’s a horrible place to be. I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy. When I think of King David and some of the passages from psalms, his words were some of the most beautiful affections towards the Lord, and he was in the middle of disaster, facing affliction and oppression. But His heart hoped for Him. His heart knew Him.

A lot of us are broken, but not because we are living for God, but because our hearts are far from Him. No longer convicted by our sin or iniquities. Lord help us.

The affliction from the piercing of His double-edge sword, is something we should welcome. It’s assurance that He is walking with us. That His word is alive in us.

“Hear me as I pray, O Lord. Be merciful and answer me! My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.” And my heart responds, “Lord, I am coming.” Do not turn your back on me. Do not reject your servant in anger. You have always been my helper. Don’t leave me now; don’t abandon me, O God of my salvation! Even if my father and mother abandon me, the Lord will hold me close. Teach me how to live, O Lord. Lead me along the right path, for my enemies are waiting for me.”
